Yes its possible to that this year, not all the panels will work correctly but if you dont like the default skins then its worth doing.
Look in your 16 skin folder for the skin_config.xml file, open with notepad and change the line
string id="required_version" value="16.0.0" to string id="required_version" value="17.0.0"
save the file and the skin will work (as long as its in the folder for 17)
