The Career of Ashley Grantham _
PostSubject: The Career of Ashley Grantham   The Career of Ashley Grantham Icon_minitime2011-12-28, 22:50

After the somewhat controversial decision to mess around with the English football system, current England international manager Fabio Capello tendered his resignation to the FA.

Capello stated that the absolute madness that will be caused by the shakeup would mean it would no longer be able efficiently build a English national side that would challenge the worlds best and only a crazy fool would take on such as task.

In one statement from Capello he voiced his opinion in a very open manner.

" I have frequently maintained that the body of the English national side should come from the top league in England this being the Premiership, how can this now be done when teams such as Staines and Dagenham are plying their game in the top league in the country. Also surely a player in red hot form should be a pick for his national side straight away with this shakeup it would be impossible to judge a player on his form as you could put even the worst Premiership player into the Blue Square Leagues facing lower calibre teams he will bang in the goals making him a red hot player but not on a even stage "

With these stinging words ringing in their ears who would the FA turn its attentions to. Many of the bigger names that could have taken the job such as Harry Redknapp and even Steve McClaren had already told the FA its not for them and the English leagues had become somewhat of a laughing stock outside the country meant that many of the foreign parties had told the FA a hardened No.

Step up the Crazy Fool: Ashley Grantham

England Squad a review

Steven Gerrard and Ledley King have been recalled after missing out of the previous squad through injury.

Chris Smalling, David Stockdale and Fraser Forster will be hoping to gain thier first caps.

Aston Villa striker Darren Bents omission from the squad once again will leave some wondering is there a way back in for him. The Championship striker has been in redhot form leading the clubs scoring charts with 8 in 10.

Many are suprised by failure to recall Gary Hooper especially after the Celtic striker scored in both of the previous two games and had featured strongly for Grantham since he took charge.

Looking good so far, I am struggling to find the right player to fill the #9 shirt as well. Nobody can seem to step up and take it over.

Good to see you giving Ledley King a chance Smile

Mixed fortunes come for Ashley Grantham's boys this update a good win over Montenegro to win their qualifying group by 8 points.

The Career of Ashley Grantham Monten10

Then Defeat 2-1 to a strong Spain side in the final International friendly that had been pre arranged now its down to Grantham and his staff to look at new oposition before the European Championships kick off next year.

Its definately worth a mention that Grantham has continued to hand some players their first caps,

Martin Kelly Liverpool
Junior Hoilett Blackburn
Scott Dann Blackburn
Connor Wickham Sunderland

All made their debuts in the International against Spain

While the dreams to win the Euro's were still buzzing around Grantham's he had the little matter of witnessing the draw for the World Cup qualifiers

Here is the draw England were handed

Ukraine
Moldova
Montenegro
San Marino
Poland

Certainly a easier group draw than what was handed to England in the European Championships, England handed a very tough draw in Group D along side Spain, Portugal and Russia

We asked Ashley Grantham his views on the European Group stage

" I personally am very disappointed with the draw we have been handed its going to be very hard to win this group although I do believe that we can qualify for the knock out stages.

Boy thats a tough draw there, Granners. You ought to seek out Writinguy's tactic on this site. Posh has been using it to good effect for his England team

Good luck

Yeah, that is a tough group, and Russia can nick some points from Spain and/or Portugal so getting at least a draw against them might be enough.

Good luck.

The 2011-12 domestic season has come to a close and it was time to reflect on how well the new system was working, The main teams that were expected to do well had live up to the expectations.
New records had been set by a few teams the one that they may want to forget for FC Halifax was relegation from the Premiership without one single win under their belts.

It was fair to say that most of the champions of their respective leagues were worthy winners and many smashed the 100 points barrier. The main suprise came in the Blue Square North where Stoke City lifted the title and favourites Chelsea were forced to battle it out in the play off's, the same could be said for Arsenal who claimed the Southern crown and by this dumped hot favourites Manchester United into the play off's. It was a magic season for Birmingham sides as Aston Villa and Birmingham City both won Automatic promotion back to the Premiership at the first time of asking.

A special mention has to go to our very own Soccer AM side who under Paul Scholes managed to survive in the Blue Square North and live to fight another day in only their second season as a football team.

Here is a run down of the Promotions from this season.

Premiership Winners: Sunderland
Championship Winners: Aston Villa, Promoted: Birmingham City, Play off Winners: Brighton
League 1 Winners: Liverpool, Promoted: Everton, Play off Winners: Reading
League 2 Winners: Tottenham, Promoted: Bolton, Ipswich, Manchester City
Blue SQ Prem Winners: Wolves, Play off Winners: Coventry
Blue SQ North Winners: Stoke City, Play off Winners: Chelsea
Blue SQ South Winners: Arsenal, Play off Winners Manchester United

Cups and Other Leagues

FA Cup Winners: Aston Villa
League Cup Winners: Manchester United
SPL Winners: Celtic

If there is any leagues that you would like to see screenshots for please make a request.

England Squad a review

Major talking point for this England squad is omission for England regulars Michael Carrick and Peter Crouch. Both players were backed by the media as certainties for Grantham's squad but he decided to leave them out.

Disappointment has to be felt for strikers Gary Hooper and Jay Rodriguez who were both named in the provisional 30 man squad.

The main suprise from Grantham was the inclusion of Liverpool right back John Flanagan into the 23 man squad although the England under 20 team have fully backed the Young 19 years old players inclusion saying he has been impressive and is ready for a full cap, Grantham took this advise onboard and chose him in the final squad dispite not featuring in the friendly games.

Friendly action

2 defeats against Italy and old rivals Holland and a win over Sweden is the form that England go into the Championships. It is worth noting that England have had 2 straight defeats in games they dominated going into the tornament opener against Portugal raising many questions from the media are England good enough to make a impact in this years competition.
